Eco-friendly management strategies for pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera in French bean, Phaseolus vulgaris L.

Abstract

A field experiment on the eco-friendly management of the pod borer, Helicoverpa armigera, in French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was conducted during the rabi season of 2023-24 at the Agronomy Instructional Farm, Chimanbhai Patel College of Agriculture, Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar. Among different treatments, azadirachtin 10000 ppm @ 0.003 per cent was found to be significantly superior, recording the lowest number of larvae per plant (0.29) and the minimum pod damage (0.50%). It was followed by NSKE @ 5 per cent + cow urine @ 10 per cent. The highest seed yield (1884 kg/ha) was recorded in the plot treated with azadirachtin 10000 ppm @ 0.003 per cent. The maximum (76.37%) increase yield over control was observed in plots treated with azadirachtin 10000 ppm @ 0.003 per cent. The avoidable loss in French bean yield was minimum (3.61%) in the plots treated with NSKE @ 5 per cent + cow urine @ 10 per cent.
