A clinical study on clinical evaluation of eggshell derived nano hydroxyapatite on augmenting healing of long bone fractures in dogs
Abstract
Among 158, 126 were long bone fractures accounting for 3.78% of total cases and 79.74% of fracture cases. The highest incidence was recorded in Mongrel dogs in the juvenile age group, male dogs, right hind limb and femur bone. The most frequent cause of fractures in the present study was automobile accidents. Out of 12 cases, fractures of radius ulna (N=6), tibio-fibula (N=5) and femur (N=1) were selected and were randomly divided in to two groups of six each. In group I, repair of fractures was done by DCP and in group II, along with bone plating, eHA was applied at the fracture site under general anaesthesia. Cranio-medial approach for the radius and ulna cranio-lateral approach for the femur and cranio-medial approach for the tibio-fibula were adopted. Lower values of ALP were recorded during the preoperative and immediate postoperative days which then increased significantly.
