Comparative study of calendula officinalis mother tinctures from different pharmacopia as per the standards of H.P.I

Abstract

Background of the studyCalendula officinalis is an annual plant that blooms from March to May and is only grown during the winter. Its monograph is mentioned in the volume 1 of H.P.I. According to H.P.I., the part used for the preparation is fresh flowers and leaves.Homoeopathic pharmacopeia of India that calendula mother tincture is prepared from fresh flowers and leaves but here presents a comparative study between two different pharmacopeia [S.W.P. and H.P.I.]. Different pharmacopoeia uses different parts of the calendula plant for the preparation of the medicine. willmar Schwabes pharmacopoeia uses herb in bloom and H.P.I. uses fresh flower and leaves of the calendula for preparation. Thus, this study is designed to evaluate whether there is difference in the quality and standards of the calendula officinalis which is prepared from different parts (as per S.W.P. and H.P.I.), compared with the standard parameters of H.P.I.
