Comparative study between clinical and functional outcomes of DHS and pfna2 in management of Boyd and griffin type 1 and 2 intertrochanteric fractures
Abstract
Introduction: Intertrochanteric fractures are common in the elderly population and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to compare the clinical and functional outcomes of dynamic hip screw (DHS) and proximal femoral nail antirotation Asia (PFNA2) in the management of Boyd and Griffin Type 1 and Type 2 intertrochanteric fractures. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on 46 patients (23 in each group) with intertrochanteric fractures treated with either DHS or PFNA2. Intraoperative variables, postoperative complications, pain assessment, functional outcomes, hospital stay, and recovery data were compared between the two groups. A subgroup analysis based on fracture type was also performed. Results: The PFNA2 group had significantly shorter intraoperative time (78.0 +/- 7.1 vs. 102.7 +/- 7.5 minutes, p
