Tricepsplasty and posterior soft tissue release in a 6 years old girl with arthrogryposis: A case report

Abstract

Background: Arthrogryposis multiplex congenita or arthrogryposis, is a congenital, non progressive and a rare disorder characterized by joint contractures in two or more body areas. This condition leads to joint stiffness, which restricts the range of motion in affected individuals. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary for all individuals affected with this condition to ensure a thorough diagnostic and management plans. Case presentation: Herein, we present the case of a 6-year-old female, known to have arthrogryposis, she was brought to the clinic presenting with limited range of motion. Right elbow triceps lengthening with capsular release was indicated. Conclusion: The management of arthrogryposis is complex, requiring careful consideration of timing, technique, and postoperative care. Moreover, elbow capsulotomy with triceps lengthening has shown to be a viable option for patients with arthrogryposis, leading to the avoidance of tendon transfer complications.
