Genetic variability in chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) for yield and its attributing traits under Chhattisgarh plains

Abstract

The present study was carried out during Rabi season of the year 2022-23 in the experimental field of department of vegetable science at Pt. K.L.S. College of Horticulture and Research Station, Rajnandgaon under Mahatma Gandhi University of Horticulture and Forestry, Sankra-Patan, Durg (C.G.). The experiment, consisting of fifteen genotypes of chilli was laid under Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications. The analysis of variance observed that the mean sum of squares due to genotypes was highly significant for all characters, which indicate the presence of variability in the genotypes. The genotype CHI-10 was found highest fruit yield and earliest flowering was observed in genotype CHI-1. Maximum fruit yield per plot was recorded in the genotype CHI-10 (6.02 kg) which was statistically at par with the performance of CHI-3 (5.88 Kg), CHI-4(4.33 kg) and CHI-1 (4.23 kg). Genotype CHI-9 (1.11 kg) yielded minimum fruit yield per plot.
