Impact of vocational training programme on minor millets based value added products for SHGs
Abstract
Minor millets are high energy, nutritious foods comparable to other cereals and some of them are even better with regard to protein and mineral content. They are particularly rich in dietary fibre, iron, calcium and B vitamins. Though minor millets have diversified high food value, their consumption has declined as compared to other cereals like rice, due to change in the life style. Hence an urgent effort is needed to conduct vocational training for self help group members of Jolarpet block of Vellore District. The vocational training was conducted to 16 farm women at age group of 18 to 42 years for ten days at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Vellore. Vocational training contains lectures, demonstration with video and hands on training with different minor millet based value added products such as bakery products, pasta products, and instant food mixes. After completion of vocational training the impact was analysed through a questionnaire method.
