Efficacy of newer insecticides on mortality, egg laying and adult emergence of pulse beetle

Abstract

An experiment was conducted at the laboratory of the Department of Agricultural Entomology, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krushi Vidyapeeth, Akola (MS) during September to February in the year 2022-23 with an aim to evaluate the efficacy of newer chemical insecticides as seed protectants against pulse beetle (Callosobruchus spp.) on chickpea seeds. The experiment was laid in a completely randomized design with eight treatments, replicated thrice. The treatments include deltamethrin 2.8 EC @ 0.04 ml, emamectin benzoate 5 SG @ 40.0 mg/kg, spinetorum 11.7 SC @ 0.017 ml, chlorpyriphos 20 EC @ 0.002 ml, flupyradifurone 200 SL @ 0.02 ml, spinosad 45 SC @ 0.0045 ml, profenofos50 EC 0.004 ml and untreated control. Results revealed that all insecticides recorded lower rate of mortality, oviposition and adult emergence than the untreated control. Deltamethrin 2.8EC @ 0.04 ml, emamectin benzoate @ 40.0 mg/kg, and spinosad 45 SC @ 0.0045 ml proved to be best in giving the highest per cent mortality i.e., 100%, 96.67% and 90.00%, respectively up to three months of storage. Seeds treated with deltamethrin 2.8EC @ 0.04 ml, emamectin benzoate @ 40.0 mg/kgand spinosad 45 SC @ 0.0045 ml showed lowest mean number of eggs (14.33, 15.33 and 20.33, respectively) and also lowest adult emergence (5.33, 6.33 and 7.67, respectively).
