Survey on the current, status and trends of ornamental fish stores in South Gujarat

Abstract

A study was conducted to assess the current status of ornamental fish shops in south Gujarat region along with techno-economical aspect of ornamental fish shops. The aim of present study is current status of ornamental fish shops and techno-economical aspect of ornamental fish shops in which aquarium shop owner from 7 district of south Gujarat was covered Data were collected by questionnaire interview method. Survey time 48 aquarium shops were covered. Out of which 35 shop owners were responded, 7 shop owners not responded which were 6 shop found closed. Result of present study shows that gold fish is highly preferred by consumers (93.93%) followed by others ornamental fish species. Study reveal that the price of ornamental fish in this region within ranges 38.57 to 4150 rupees. As there was lack of local breeder hence majority of fish species procurement from other states like Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Ornamental fishes also affected by various diseases like as skin infection observed in some fish, Long thread like structure attached to vent and anophthalima disease. It was also noticed that shop owners were treat disease fish with the help of export advises.
