Impact of NFSM Seed Hub scheme on the livelihood of beneficiaries

Abstract

A Centrally Sponsored Scheme National Food Security Mission (NFSM) programme has gained prominence as a key push to advance pulses production and productivity all over the nation. The study was conducted in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu, with a sample size of 40 beneficiary respondents from the designated villages utilising census method. In-depth analysis of the scheme's effects on farmers involved in seed production of pulses is provided in this article, along with conclusions about how well it promotes sustainable agricultural practices and increases crop yields while also stimulating economic growth. The quantitative component looks at data from a various farmers engaged in seed production before and after implementation of the scheme, analysing variables such as the impact related to crop, social impact, economic impact and personal impact. The findings revealed a significant positive impact of NFSM Seed Hub Scheme on the livelihood of farmers enrolled in seed production. Participating farmers have reported a gradual shift towards seed production, rather taking up grain production. Notably, the seed hub scheme has led to tangible economic benefits for farmers involved in seed production and also the NFSM Seed Hub Scheme ensures that farmers have access to superior quality seeds that are resilient and adaptable to local conditions.
