Performance of high yeilding selections and hybrids of cashew (Anacardium occidentale L) under multi location trial-ii
Abstract
An experiment was conducted at Cashew Research Station, Bapatla which is situated in Southern coastal region of Andhra Pradesh. The experiment comprising thirteen selections and hybrids of cashew, viz., T.No.30/1, T.No.3/33, T.No.10/19, T.NO.3/28, H-68, H-303, H-320, H-367, H-255, M44/3, M15/4, T.No.107/3 and T.No.40/1developed at All India co-ordinated Research Project centres of Cashew of the states Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra. The result of the study revealed that among the selections and hybrids selected, that the selection T.No.3/33 has recorded the highest mean plant height (4.35 m) followed by T.No. 10/19 (4.27m). The lowest mean plant height was recorded in the selection H-255 (3.28 m). Maximum mean trunk girth was recorded in the selection T.No.3/33 (72.17cm) followed by H-68 (71.74 cm). The lowest mean trunk girth was recorded in M 44/3 (60.15 cm). Flowering duration ranging from 85 to 119.71 days in different genotypes of which lowest flowering duration was observed in T. No. 10/19 (85 days) followed by T.No.30/1 (89.00 days). The number of panicles/sq. m area was recorded highest in the selection M 44/3 (22.03) followed by T.No. 107/3 (20.17). The number of fruits / panicle was recorded highest in the selection M 44/3 (5.85) followed by M 15/4 (5.50). The nut yield kg/tree was highest in T.No. 10/19 (8.92 Kg/tree) which was significantly found highest followed T.No.30/1 (5.34 kg/tree). The cumulative nut yield for 15 years was also found highest in T.No.10/19 of 134.55 kg/tree followed by T. No. 30/1 (80.93 kg/tree) . The maximum average nut weight was recorded highest in H-320 (8.67 g) and followed by H-255 (8.35 g). However T.No. 10/19 recorded the nut weight of 8.10 g. Apple weight ranges from 34.30 g to 87.66 g, of which highest apple weight was recorded in T.No. 10/19 of 87.66 g and followed by H-367 (72.70 g). The highest shelling percentage is recorded in T.No. 40/1 (30.16) followed T.No. 10/19 (29.30%).
