A preliminary checklist of Scarabaeid beetles (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) from around Pune District

Abstract

A survey of Scarabaeid beetles fauna from around Pune, Maharashtra, India.Study of the species diversity of Scarabaeid beetles was carried out in 2022.Present communication reports 7 species of Scarabaeid beetles belonging to family Scarabaeidae, 4 subfamilies, 6 tribes.Collected Scarabaeid beetles contains 3 coprophagus beetles (Dung beetles) and 4 phytophagus beetles (Chafers) are present.The Dung beetles play very crucial role in cleaning of debries, improve soil fertility, nutrient cycling, seed dispersion, fly control and Chafers are causing damage to the plant of many commercial agricultural crops.The present study aimed to report study of Scarabaeid beetles from around Pune.
