The ancient healing power of Pterocarpus marsupium: A comprehensive review

Abstract

Pterocarpus marsupium, commonly known as the Indian kino tree, is a deciduous tree species native to the Indian subcontinent. This species has been used in traditional medicine for centuries, and its extracts have been reported to possess a wide range of biological activities, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and anticancer properties. Recent studies have highlighted the potential of P. Marsupium as a sustainable and eco-friendly source of medicinal compounds. The tree's leaves, bark, and seeds have been found to contain a variety of bioactive compounds, including flavonoids, phenolic acids, and alkaloids, which may be responsible for its medicinal properties. In this review, we summarize the current state of knowledge on the traditional uses, pharmacological activities, and chemical composition of P. Marsupium.
