Assessing different weed control methods in soybean fields

Abstract

Weed management is a critical aspect of soybean production, as weeds compete for resources, reduce yield potential, and increase production costs. This paper evaluates and compares various weed control methods cultural, mechanical, chemical, and biological based on their effectiveness, environmental impact, economic feasibility, and relevance in sustainable agriculture. While each method has distinct advantages, limitations such as herbicide resistance, soil degradation, and labor requirements underscore the importance of an integrated approach. Integrated Weed Management (IWM) emerges as the most effective strategy, combining diverse methods to enhance weed suppression, improve crop yields, and promote environmental sustainability. By reviewing relevant studies and field practices, this paper highlights the need for adaptive and innovative weed control systems to address modern agricultural challenges.
