A case series of effects of homoeopathic medicine abroma Augusta mother tincture in lowering levels of glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c) in patients of type-2 diabetes mellitus

International Journal of Homoeopathic Sciences · 2024 · Vol. 8(4) · pp. 384–388

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of Diabetes mellitus (DM) has risen considerably over the past few decades. According to WHO almost 422 million people worldwide are suffering from DM. Most of the affected population belongs to low-income and middle-income countries. The Indian population is highly affected with DM especially type-2 and the cases are increasing at an ever-increasing rate. As the conservative treatment available for DM is both costly and can lead to some long-term side-effects need for alternative natural therapy is increasing. Homoeopathic literature and clinical studies have evidences of role of medicine prepared from herb Abroma augusta in treating DM. This study shows 3 cases (2 male and 1 female patient) where Abroma augusta mother tincture (MT) was prescribed for management of DM and their HbA1c levels were assessed before and after the administration of the medicine. To assess the causal attribution of Homoeopathic intervention with Abroma augusta MT and therapeutic outcome of HbA1c levels, Modified Noranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy (MONARCH) was used. Results: The administration of Abroma augusta MT brought about marked reduction in HbA1c% levels of the 3 cases from 11.3% to 5.7%, 9.4% to 8.5%, and 10.9% to 7.6 in case 1, 2 and 3 respectively. The MONARCH criteria also showed high causal attribution of Abroma augusta MT in lowering the HbA1c levels with scores of +13, +8 and +11 in Case 1, 2, and 3 respectively.
