Assessment of losses caused by Carpomyia vesuviana on ber fruits

Abstract

The study was carried out to evaluate the assessment of losses caused by fruit fly in ber plants, the average numbers of healthy fruits per twig in protected and unprotected trees (on number basis) were 149.93 and 74.57 respectively. The average number of infested fruits in protected and unprotected twigs was 11.53 and 58.27 respectively. The percent infestation of fruits per twig in protected and unprotected were 7.15 and 43.86, respectively. The percent infestation on weight basis of fruits per twig in protected and unprotected were 6.97 and 43.93, respectively. The average marketable yield per tree in unprotected plots was 32.16 kg while in protected plots it was 52.76 kg per tree. Thus ber fruit fly was responsible for reducing the marketable yield of ber fruits under the prevailing natural conditions at Jobner (Rajasthan). The net yield difference between protected and unprotected plots, the avoidable quantitative loss in two consecutive years was 39.05 percent.
