Effect of long-term manuring and fertilization on yield and nutrient uptake by sorghum under sorghum-wheat sequence on Vertisols
Abstract
The present investigation was undertaken to study the effect of long-term manuring and fertilization on yield and nutrient content and uptake by sorghum under sorghum-wheat sequence during 2023-24 (i.e. 36rd cycle) on existing AICRP Long Term Fertilizer Experiment initiated during 1988 (Kharif). The twelve treatments replicated four times in a randomized block design. The treatments comprised of different levels of recommended dose of fertilizers (RDF) viz., 50, 75, 100 and 150% NPK and 100% NPK in combination with farmyard manure (FYM @ 5 tha-1), FYM alone @ 10 t ha-1, 100% NPK devoid of S, 100% NPK along with S @ 37.5 kg ha-1 and Zn @ 2.5 kg ha-1, NP, N alone and control. The results revealed that the application of 100% NPK + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 recorded significantly highest yield of sorghum followed by 75% NPK + 25% N through FYM and 150% NPK which was at par with each other. The significantly highest content of N, P and K was observed with the application of 100% NPK + FYM @ 5 t ha-1. Similarly, the significantly highest uptake of N, P and K by sorghum was observed with the application of 100% NPK + FYM @ 5 t ha-1 followed by 75% NPK + 25% N through FYM. The lowest content and uptake of N, P and K was observed in control.
