Antifungal and antagonist activity of different Trichoderma isolates against S. rolfsii and Rhizoctonia solani

Abstract

Soil-borne pathogens such as Sclerotium rolfsii and Rhizoctonia solani cause significant economic losses in various crops in the agro-climatic region of southern Rajasthan, India. Chemical-based treatments are costly and have environmental drawbacks, highlighting the need for eco-friendly alternatives. This study explores the antagonistic potential of various native Trichoderma species as biocontrol agents (BCAs) against these pathogens. Using dual culture assays, 20 isolates of Trichoderma spp., including T. harzianum, T. asperellum, and T. erinaceum, were evaluated for their efficacy. Results showed that T. harzianum isolates significantly inhibited S. rolfsii.
