Genetic analysis of yield and its component traits in brinjal (Solanum melongena L.)
Abstract
The present investigation was conducted at Central research station, Vegetable Division Wakawali, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli (MH.) during Rabi 2023-24. The experimental materials comprised of eight parents, their 15 F1’s and two checks. The experiment was conducted in randomized block design with three replications. The plot size was kept at 2.4 x 3.0 m² having 20 plants with spacing 60 X 60 cm apart. Considerable genetic variability with regard to heritability, genetic advance and coefficient of variation were showed by all the characters. The present investigation revealed that the phenotypic coefficient of variation was higher than the corresponding genotypic coefficient of variation for all the traits indicating the impact of the environmental factors towards their expression. High heritability coupled with high genetic advance as percentage of mean was recorded for no. of primary branches per plant (85.93% and 414.48%), No. of fruits per plant (87.18% and 42.01%),Fruit Length (cm) (89.13% and 40.54%), Fruit Diameter (cm) (76.98% and 23.31%), Fruit weight (g) (84.19% and 34.56%), Fruit yield per plant (kg) (62.59% and 23.32%),Terminal Bacterial wilt incidence (%) (98.76% and 169.29%).
