Impact of weather parameters on groundnut yield in Dharwad: A statistical analysis

Abstract

Groundnut (Arachis hypogea L.) is a high-yielding cash crop with multiple uses for each plant part, including direct consumption, cooking oil, and a rich source of protein feed for livestock. In this study an attempt has been made to study the relationship for weather parameters on kharif and summer groundnut yield for the period of 1980-2021 of Dharwad district. In kharif season Multiple regression analysis included only temperature exhibited significance, whereas stepwise regression analysis identified temperature and relative humidity as the significant variables affecting groundnut yield, with non-significant variables being eliminated, likely due to multi collinearity issues. Contrastingly, for the summer crop, the multiple regression analysis indicated that none of the weather parameters had a significant effect on yield. However, when applying stepwise regression to the same summer crop, the resulting model included only the temperature variable, eliminating all other weather parameters.
