Effect of supplementing flaxseed powder on serum lipid profile in broilers

Abstract

An experiment was conducted to study the effect of feeding Flaxseed powder on serum lipid profile in broilers. A total of 150 cobb chicks were distributed into five treatment groups up to 42 days of age. The study includes five different types of dietary treatments, they are T1 control group (basal diet) as per Bureau of Indian standards 2007, T2 (5% flaxseed powder in basal diet), T3 (7% flaxseed powder in basal diet), T4 (10% flaxseed powder in basal diet) and T5 (12% flaxseed powder in basal diet) The results revealed that There was no significant difference in total cholesterol, triglycerides, low density lipoprotein levels among different treatment groups compared to control, but significant difference is seen high density lipoprotein levels in 12 percent flaxseed group compared to control. Based on the above results it was concluded that the inclusion of Flaxseed powder at 12 percent was beneficial in improving serum lipid profile in comparison to control group. Hence it was concluded that the inclusion of Flaxseed powder up to 12 percent was beneficial in improving the serum lipid profile in broilers.
