Isolation of phosphate solubilizing bacteria and their efficiency on seed germination of chickpea

Abstract

The present study investigates the isolation of phosphate solubilizing bacteria (PSB), solubilization capabilities and their efficiency to enhance growth of chickpea by paper towel method. Out of 15 soil samples of Akola district, a total of 6 PSB were isolated on Pikovaskaya’s (PVK) agar media containing insoluble tricalcium phosphate. The calculated phosphate solubilizing index (PSI) was highest in PSB-5 isolate. The significant highest seed germination (95%), root length (17.88 cm), shoot length (10.27 cm) and seedling vigour index (2674.25) were recorded by PSB-5 followed by PSB-2 isolate among all the isolates.
