Seasonal incidence of major insect pests of dolichos bean (Lablab purpureus L.) in Konkan region

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at Vegetable Improvement Scheme, Central Experiment Station, Wakavali, Maharashtra, India during Rabi, 2022-23, for studying the seasonal incidence of insect pests infesting dolichos bean. Aphids (Aphis spp) and leaf miners (Liriomyza spp.) appeared during the 50th standard meteorological week (SMW), while pod borers (Maruca vitrata) were first observed in the 52nd SMW. Correlation analyses revealed that the leaf miners exhibited significant negative correlations with maximum temperature while the aphids and pod borer showed a positive non-significant correlation. The aphids, leaf miners, and pod borer showed a negative significant correlation with the minimum temperature. Aphids showed a negative non-significant correlation with the morning and evening relative humidity. While leaf miner expressed a positive non-significant correlation and the pod borer showed a negative non-significant relation with the morning relative humidity and a negative significant correlation with the evening relative humidity. Aphids expressed a positive significant correlation with the bright sunshine hours while leaf miner and the pod borer showed a positive non-significant correlation.
