Unravelling the antibacterial potential of hydroethanolic bark extract from Melia azedarach: In vitro and in silico investigation

Abstract

In present study in-vitro and in silico analysis of hydroethanolic bark extract of Melia azedarach was carried out for development of new remediation against E. coli and S. aureus. The MIC of the bark extract against E. coli and S. aureus was found to be 8 mg/ml and 1 mg/ml, respectively. Furthermore, binding interactions were explored through molecular docking which showed good binding energy of Compounds viz. CID 535221 and 500095 analysed through GC-MS against target protein molecules of microbes E. coli (PDB ID 1IEM, 7NAE, 1HNJ) and S. aureus (PDB ID 2ZCO, 4CJN, 1JIJ). The current study suggests that bark extract from M. azedarach holds promising potential antimicrobial activity and bioactive compounds can be utilized for the development of an alternative agent to reduce antibiotic resistance.
