Investigating the effects of a novel herbicide active ingredient on soybean growth and yield

Abstract

The present experiment aimed to investigate the impact of a new herbicide molecule, sodium aceflourofen (165 g ha-1) + clodinafop Propargyl (100 g ha-1), on the growth and yield of soybean (Glycine max L.). The results revealed that this herbicide treatment significantly enhanced growth attributes and yield parameters compared to other treatments, including weedy check. Growth attributes such as plant height, number of branches, dry matter accumulation, crop growth rate, relative growth rate, leaf area, and leaf area index were maximized under the sodium aceflourofen + clodinafop Propargyl treatment. Similarly, yield parameters like number of pods per plant, number of seeds per pod, seed index, seed yield, and harvest index were also highest in this treatment. In contrast, the weedy check treatment exhibited minimum values for all growth and yield parameters, highlighting the detrimental impact of uncontrolled weeds on soybean productivity. The findings suggest that the sodium aceflourofen + clodinafop Propargyl treatment effectively managed weeds, leading to improved soybean growth and yield. This study demonstrates the potential of this new herbicide molecule to enhance soybean productivity and highlights its utility in integrated weed management programs. The results have significant implications for soybean growers, as they provide a valuable tool for optimizing crop yields while minimizing weed competition. Further research is needed to explore the long-term effects of this herbicide on soybean ecosystems and to develop sustainable weed management strategies.
