Correlation analysis of yield and yield-contributing traits in F4 and F5 generations in okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench]
Abstract
The present investigation was conducted at the experimental research farm of the Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, Latur, during the rabi season of 2022 (selfing) and the kharif season of 2023 (evaluation). The study aimed to explore the genetic characteristics of the F4 and F5 generations of Okra [Abelmoschus esculentus (L.) Moench] derived from three crosses, employing a Randomized Block Design with two replications. Correlation coefficient analysis showed that fruit yield per plant (kg) was significantly and positively correlated with the plant height, number of nodes per plant and days required for first picking at both phenotypic and genotypic levels in the F4 and F5 generations. Additionally, it was positively and significantly correlated with node at first flower appear at the both phenotypic and genotypic level in the F4 generation. In the F5 generation, it was positively and significantly correlated with fruit yield per plot and fruit yield per hectare at the both phenotypic and genotypic level in the F4 and F5 generations of the cross Kashi Pragati × Arka Abhay (C-1: P3 × P1).
