Effect of grafting on growth, yield, quality and nutrient uptake in tomato

Abstract

The study was conducted at Dr. YSRHU- College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta, Annamayya district of Andhra Pradesh focused on grafting tomato (Arka Samrat) onto three wild rootstocks - Solanum torvum, Solanum gilo, and Solanum indicum to evaluate their impact on growth, yield, quality parameters, and nutrient uptake. Data analysis revealed significant differences among the treatments regarding plant height, average fruit weight, soil available phosphorous, potassium uptake, and crop growth rate, indicating the positive effects of grafting on these parameters. The results showed that grafting onto wild Solanum rootstocks led to improved plant growth, nutrient uptake efficiency, yield, and fruit quality parameters, aligning with previous studies on grafting in various vegetables. Overall, the research highlighted the potential of grafting tomatoes onto wild Solanum rootstocks as a beneficial technique for enhancing crop productivity, quality, and resilience to stress in horticultural practices.
