Effect of different planting dates and spacing on yield and its attributing characters of cabbage (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.)

Abstract

An experiment in the field was conducted in Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University at Horticulture Research Farm in Lucknow (U.P.) during the rabi seasons of 2021-22 and 2022-23 to evaluate the impact of different planting dates and spacing on cabbage yield and attributes. A Factorial Randomized Block Design (FRBD) was employed to examine these variables, with twelve treatments having three replications. The combined analysis of data from both years revealed that treatment P1 (30 November) had significantly higher whole plant weight (1.69 kg), gross weight of head (1.13 kg), net weight of head (0.71 kg), equatorial diameter (17.41 cm), polar diameter (14.59 cm), head length (14.59 cm), yield per plot (10.00 kg) and yield (308.87 q/ha). Among spacings, it can be concluded that the S4 (60 cm x 60 cm) plant spacing achieved the highest whole plant weight (1.85 kg), gross weight (1.27 kg), net weight (0.80 kg), equatorial diameter (18.13 cm), polar diameter (15.30 cm) and head length (15.30 cm). Whereas, significantly highest yield per plot (11.02 kg), and yield (340.26 q/ha) were obtained in S1 (45 cm x 30 cm) plant spacing.
