Genetic variability studies on growth and yield traits in F4 population of cross Miraj Local x AAC-1 of China aster (Callistephus chinensis (L.) Nees.)

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out to study genetic variability in F4 population of cross Miraj Local x AAC-1 of China aster at Kittur Rani Channamma College of Horticulture, Arabhavi in 2023-24. The findings revealed that the phenotypic coefficient of variation (PCV) was greater than the genotypic coefficient of variation (GCV) for all the traits examined. High PCV and GCV recorded for number of branches and flower yield per plant. High heritability and genetic advance advance over mean was recorded for plant height, number of branches, number of flowers per plant, individual flower weight and flower yield per plant. Heritability was primarily caused by additive gene effect and can be further utilized for crop improvement.
