Antimicrobial resistance profiles on Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in mastitis affected lactating cattle

Abstract

The present study was conducted to isolate Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli from mastitic milk samples and identify AMR pattern. A total of 250 cattle were screened, where 12 (4.80%) and 89 (35.60%) were affected with clinical and sub-clinical mastitis, respectively. The predominant causative pathogen was S. aureus followed by E. coli. The prevalence of S. aureus was 41.66% and 48.31% while, E. coli was 33.33% and 15.73% in clinical and sub-clinical mastitis affected cattle, respectively. More than, 70% of S. aureus showed resistance against ampicillin, oxacillin and tetracycline and more than 60% of E. coli exhibited resistance against ampicillin and sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim.
