Effect of varieties and sowing windows on the drymatter production, partitioning and yield of chickpea

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during rabi 2021-22 and 2022-23 at ZAHRS, Hiriyur to study the response of four chickpea varieties to three different sowing windows. Among the varieties, JAKI-9218 had significantly higher total drymatter production and partition into pods, stem and leaves. The seed and haulm yield (12.52 and 19.73 q ha-1, respectively) of JAKI-9218 was significantly higher and was statistically on par with JG-11 (11.97 and 18.95 q ha-1, respectively). It was observed that the performance of chickpea declined with delay in sowing. The total drymatter production declined upto 26.61 percent under delayed sowing. The seed and haulm yield declined upto 42.06 percent while the haulm yield upto 40.95 percent.
