A comprehensive study on epidemiological factors influencing malaria trends in Barpeta district, Assam, India

Abstract

Malaria is a severe vector-borne disease caused by a protozoan Plasmodium. The objective of the study was to find the epidemiological data and the significant factors responsible for malaria in Barpeta district of Assam, India and also factors responsible for complete elimination of malaria. Statistical analyses were performed on both primary and secondary data in SPSS software (version IBM SPSS 29). Pearson’s correlation method and regression analysis checks the significance level of the factors. The trend of malaria cases since 2014 to 2022 had improved from epidemic to fewer cases. The difference in the distribution of malaria among male population and for the age group of > 15 years is highly significant. According to Annual Parasitic Index, majority of the study area is under Category 0. Replicating the same study in case of other diseases is also anticipated to facilitate control and prevention of other vector-borne diseases.
