A multidirectional locking nailing and plating study for distal tibial fractures: A comparative study

Abstract

Background and Objective: These breaks are more worrisome than diaphyseal or middle-third injuries because they are closer to the ankle joint. There are still problems with treating distal tibia injuries. The point of our study is to find out how well multidirectional locking nailing and plates work for treating distal tibial fractures. Materials and Methods: 40 people with distal tibial fractures were in our study's group. People in the plating group were between the ages of 27 and 60, while people in the nail group were between the ages of 33 and 55. This study was done in the Department of Orthopaedics at Tagore Medical College and Hospital in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, from May 2018 to April 2019. It used both retrospective and prospective methods. Results: The results are the same as those of the study that Paraschous and his colleagues did on knee functioning. Because of this, the functional results for the patients in our study were mostly good. The ankle and knee tests of the three patients with malunion were much worse than those of the other people in the study. Conclusion: In some cases, treating people with distal tibial fractures effectively involves combining interlocking intramedullary nailing with multidirectional locking.
