A systematic review on the efficacy of homoeopathic medicine in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)

Abstract

A literature review on homoeopathic medicine for Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is essential for evidence-based healthcare. It helps patients and providers understand the potential benefits and limitations of these remedies, resolves conflicting data, identifies research gaps, and ensures patient safety by preventing the use of unproven or harmful treatments. Healthcare professionals can use this review for informed decision-making, while its findings can influence public health policies based on scientific evidence. We conducted a search for relevant literature on the topic by utilizing various databases, including Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, JSTOR, Google Scholar, PsycINFO (focusing on psychology and psychiatry literature), and ERIC (the Education Resources Information Center). Altogether, we located a total of 6 published articles - 4 individual studies and 2 articles exclusive to a review (Not present in any other database) - concerning the examination of homoeopathic approaches for IBS treatment. All of these studies demonstrated the potential effectiveness of homoeopathy in treating IBS. Limited studies on homoeopathy for IBS show mixed results. More extensive research is needed for a conclusive understanding.
