The use of reference in children's short story

Abstract

Children’s short stories are one of the most important thing in child’s life. In addition to the moral benefits of a short story, there are educational and linguistic benefits. It helps the children to increase and strength their vocabulary. Also it assists them to know how to use pronouns, nouns and verbs. So this research sheds the light on one of the most important aspect of a child’s language learning journey which is called reference. Reference is expressions that can be realized by referring to other words in the text which will be either personal reference, demonstrative reference, or comparative reference. In specific way, pronouns are part of a personal reference so as part of their speech and language development, children acquire pronouns, which are used to identify individuals, animals, and objects. As children learn to speak, pronouns mistakes are part of the learning process so one of the aims of this research is to overcome this difficulty by analyzing one of the children’s short story according to the use of reference as it assist them to develop their language. Moreover this research hypothezises how the use of reference in the children’s short story have an impact on their learning process.
