Purpose of usage of computers by agricultural university and traditional university students
Abstract
It is imperative that university student’s current knowledge of computers and their level of commitment about learning computer technology and computer applicability is increasing day by day. At present, universities are implementing computer and internet-based interactive learning in academic teaching to improve the advanced communication and enhance knowledge of the students. Internet aids in bring up to date student’s needed scientific information awareness with the. However, this computer based learning improves the quality of education among the students than the conventional teaching method. The aim of the present study was to assess the knowledge and usage pattern of computer by agricultural university and traditional university students. Google form was administered to the students. The study was conducted for 120 students of which 60 students belonged to agricultural university and 60 students belonged to traditional university. From the results of the study it was observed that majority (80.00%) of agricultural university and traditional university students belonged to age group of 18-20 years. Nearly equal percentage (25.00) of their fathers had education up to SSLC and PUC. While 27.78 percent mothers of agricultural university students had studied up to PUC and about 30.00 percent of traditional university students mothers had studied up to SSLC. Most of the students belonged to nuclear families and they had slight high rural area background compared to urban area. More than half (64.44%) of the agricultural university students and 83.33 percent traditional university had no computer at home, whereas, 41.11 percent of the agricultural university students and 46.67 percent traditional-university had no computer classes at college. The results from the study also indicated the purpose of using computers by students. With respect to agricultural university students used computer for preparing/ typing notes 21.11% regularly, 63.33 percent occasionally, 15.55 percent never whereas traditional university students 20.00 percent regularly and occasionally and 33.33 percent never. With regarding to slides preparation 27.78 percent used regularly. Overall they had medium exposure to computers.
