Assessing the efficacy of traditional medicine compared to animal-modeled vaccines
Abstract
This systematic review aims to compare the efficacy of vaccines tested primarily in animal models with traditional medicines, including Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), across a range of diseases. Vaccines are extensively evaluated using animal models, which while providing valuable data, raises concerns regarding cost and ethical implications. In contrast, traditional medicines offer a potentially viable alternative, with Ayurveda drawing on historical use and documented outcomes in various health conditions and TCM utilizing in-vitro methods. This study synthesizes evidence from clinical trials and observational studies to evaluate the effectiveness of Ayurvedic and TCM interventions. The findings suggest that while vaccines are crucial for controlling infectious diseases, traditional medicines also demonstrate significant therapeutic benefits and may offer cost-effective and ethically favorable options. This analysis highlights the potential of integrating traditional medicinal approaches into broader healthcare strategies to complement existing treatments and address the limitations of current vaccine research methods. When combining traditional medicines with Western approaches and clinical trials, in vitro studies are often sufficient to assess efficacy and safety.
