A study to assess the effectiveness of yoga on level of stress among adolescents at selected government school Bhilai, district- Durg, Chhattisgarh
Abstract
A quantitative, pre-experimental (one group pre-test post-test only) study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of yoga on level of stress among adolescents in selected government school, Bhilai, C.G. The study aimed to assess both the pre-test and post-test level of stress among adolescents, evaluate the impact of yoga on level of stress, and explore the association between pre-test level of stress and selected socio-demographic variables. The study employed Roy’s adaptation model as the conceptual framework. Sixty adolescents were selected using a non-probability purposive sampling method from specific government school. The study revealed a statistically significant difference between the mean pre-test level of stress score (129.26) and the mean post-test level of stress score (89.20). Initially, 17 adolescents (28.33%) exhibited mild stress, 40 (66.67%) experienced moderate stress, and 3 (5%) had severe stress. Following the intervention, 20 adolescents (33.3%) reported low stress, 37 (61.7%) had mild stress, and only 3 (5%) faced moderate stress. The study also identified a significant association between adolescents’; age and their previous knowledge of yoga asana, impacting the pre-test level of stress scores. These findings indicate the effectiveness of yoga in reducing level of stress among adolescents. Recommendations include conducting further descriptive studies to assess awareness of the health benefits of yoga, particularly in diverse settings such as rural and urban schools.
