Impact of different pre-sowing treatments on the germination of mulberry (Morus sp) seeds

Abstract

Assessing the impact of several pre-sowing treatments on mulberry seed germination was the goal of the current study. This study was conducted to evaluate effective pre-sowing treatments for enhancing the germination of mulberry F1 progeny seeds. The experiment was designed using a completely randomized approach under controlled laboratory conditions, incorporating six different pre-treatment methods each replicated three times. Results demonstrated a significant increase in germination rates with GA3 application, with germination percentages reaching around 85-92 percent for 500 ppm (T3), 80-87 percent for 1000 ppm (T4), compare to other treatments. This indicates that GA3 has been found to be effective in enhancing germination and to break dormancy in mulberry seeds. In conclusion, treating de-pulped mulberry seeds with GA3 is a successful pre-sowing technique.
