Genetic components analysis of F1 and F2 generations for seed yield and its component traits in green gram (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek)

Abstract

The present study involved 115 treatments (19 parents, 48 F1’s, and 48 F2’s), arranged in a Randomized Block Design during the 2023 Kharif season at three locations: Daleep Nagar Research Station (Kanpur), Saini Research Station (Kaushambi) and the Student Instruction Farm (CSAUAT, Kanpur). The experimental material consisted of 16 parental lines (KM2419, KM2421, KM2447, IPM208, IPM322, IPM604, SML660, SML681, HUM228, PM2108, NM215, KM2449, KM2452, KM2454, KM2457, KM2458) and three testers (PDM139, KM2195, K851). These lines were crossed using a line × tester design to develop 48 F1’s, which were evaluated for 11 traits: days to 50% flowering, days to maturity, plant height, branches per plant, clusters per plant, pods per plant, seeds per pod, 100-seed weight, harvest index, protein content, and seed yield per plant. The ratio of σ 2g to σ 2s ( σ 2g/ σ 2s) was found to be less than unity for all the traits in both generations, across all environments, and in the pooled data. The values of the average degree of dominance ( σ 2s / σ 2g)0.5 were greater than unity for all the traits in both generations, across all environments, and in the pooled data, indicating an over-dominance type of gene action.
