In-vitro efficacy of fungicides against Rhizoctonia bataticola causing black gram root rot

Abstract

Black gram (Vigna mungo), a legume native to South Asia, is primarily cultivated in India. It faces significant threats from various diseases, notably root rot caused by Rhizoctonia bataticola, which is increasingly destructive. This study aimed to determine the efficacy of fungicides against Rhizoctonia bataticola using the poison food technique at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3%. Among the eleven fungicides tested, Tebuconazole 25.9% W/W, Propiconazole 13.9% + Difenoconazole 13.9% EC, Carbendazim 50% WP, Propineb 70% WP and Carbendazim 12% + Mancozeb 63% WP showed complete inhibition (100%) of R. bataticola mycelial growth at all concentrations. Metalaxyl 35% WS showed lower mycelial growth followed by Azoxystrobin 23% SC at concentrations of 0.1%, 0.2%, and 0.3% respectively.
