Estimate of correlationsand Path Coefficients in mustard [Brassica juncea L. (Czern and Coss)]

Abstract

The significant positive association between phenotypic and genotypic performance, as well as path correlation between crops, helps in the selection of superior cultivars. It was used in our study due to the significant significance of these values. For this an experiment was conducted on different genotypes of mustard during 2022-23 with the goal of to study the genotypic and phenotypic correlations among yield and its components in different population under study. The experimental material comprising of 45treatments was evaluated in RBD with three replication Observation was based upon nineteen characteristics. For all characteristics observed High genotypic correlations, particularly for yield-related traits such as plant height, days to maturity, and biological yield, indicate that these traits are predominantly controlled by genetic factors, making them ideal candidates for selection. At the phenotypic level, days to 50% flowering showed a minor positive direct effect on seed yield (0.0034), suggesting that earlier flowering can contribute to yield improvement. As a result of the above observations, it is possible to conclude that there is significant possibility for successful crop modification for improved yields and yield-attributing traits in current mustard germplasm.
