A study of postoperative periprosthetic femur fracture in cases of operated total knee replacement-incidence and treatment outcome

Abstract

Introduction: Postoperative periprosthetic femur fracture after total knee replacement have become the focus of interest in recent times. The aim is to study the different treatment modalities, outcome of the treatment and functional evaluation after postoperative periprosthetic femur fracture. Material and Methods: This is a retrospective study of 26 cases of postoperative periprosthetic femur fracture that occurred between January 2014 to December 2023, after 3290 total knee replacement. Patients were managed conservatively versus operative based on Stability of the Prosthesis, Displacement of the Fracture fragments and Quality of the Bone. Conclusion: Good results for postoperative periprosthetic femur fracture can be obtained if properly and timely intervention is done keeping into account other comorbid conditions.
