Effect of varying levels of plant density on growth of Yardlong bean

Abstract

The present study entitled “Performance of Yardlong Bean [Vigna unguiculata Walp. Sub sp. sesqupedalis (L.) Verdcourt] In Varying Levels of Plant Density” was carried out at Vegetable Research Farm, Regional Horticultural Research Station, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari during the Summer season of 2023. An experiment was carried out with two factors having various levels of spacing viz., S1: 50 cm × 10 cm, S2: 50 cm × 20 cm, S3: 50 cm × 30 cm and S4: 50 cm × 40 cm and plant density namely P1: Single plant hill-1 and P2: Two plants hill-1 with eight treatment combination. All the treatment combinations were replicated thrice and laid out in a randomized block design with factorial concept. The effect of plant spacing was found significant on minimum days to 50 % flowering (46.97), first picking (53.80), maximum days to last picking (95.96), plant height (274.93 cm), primary branches plant-1 (2.80), pod length (49.62 cm), total pod plant-1 (6.79), maximum number of cluster plant-1 (3.85), pods cluster-1 (2.01). The effect of plant density was found significant on days to 50 % flowering (48.57), days to first picking (55.82), days to last picking (96.42), plant height (271.92 cm), primary branches plant-1 (2.52), pod length (47.04 cm), total pod plant-1 (6.55), cluster plant-1 (3.64), pod cluster-1 (1.93). There is no visible impact of the interaction effect on the growth parameters.
