Evaluation of PGRrsquo;s, girth of hard wood stem cuttings and rooting media for rapid multiplication of guava (Psidium guajava L.) cv. Allahabad Safeda

Abstract

An experiment was carried out to evaluate PGRs and girth of hardwood stem cuttings for rapid multiplication of guava cv. Allahabad Safeda. Sixteen treatment combinations. having different girth and concentrations of PGR’s were evaluated in polybags under a shadenet provided with mist irrigation. The study revealed that, 10±2 mm girth of guava cuttings treated with 4000 ppm IBA (T3) was the most effective treatment which recorded minimum number of days for sprouting with maximum number of sprouts per cutting, sprouting percentage, number of leaves per cutting, length of shoot, number of roots per cutting, length of root, rooting percentage, fresh weight of roots, dry weight of roots, main shoot dry weight, survival percentage, rate of photosynthesis, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, intracellular CO2 concentration, SPAD values, specific leaf weight, chlorophyll –a & chlorophyll –b content, total phenols and total sugars. While, 15±2 mm girth of guava cuttings treated with 3 % H2O2 + 200 ppm Paclobutrazol recorded the least values.
