Effectiveness of oestrous inducing agents in treating anoestrous in cattle and buffaloes: Insights from trials under SAMADHAN project Rajasthan

Abstract

Anestrus, a significant fertility issue in dairy cattle and buffaloes, drastically affects reproductive efficiency. This study compared the effectiveness of two heat-inducing agents, Ovulanta and Himfertin, in addressing anestrus. Among animals treated with Ovulanta, approximately 70% of buffaloes and 75% of cattle exhibited signs of estrus, with conception rates of 60% in buffaloes and 68% in cattle. Himfertin, though slightly less effective, demonstrated a 65% estrous response rate in buffaloes and 70% in cattle, with conception rates of 55% and 65%, respectively. The results indicate that while Ovulanta showed marginally higher efficiency in both estrous response and conception rates, Himfertin remains a valuable alternative. Both products can be effectively used depending on specific livestock needs and management conditions. Further research with larger sample sizes and diverse environmental conditions is recommended to gain a deeper understanding of these products’ overall efficacy across different breeds.
