Effect of organic and inorganic weed management practices on the productivity of irrigated cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L)

Abstract

A field experiment was carried out in the Experimental Farm, Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Agriculture, Annamalai University, Annamalai Nagar, Tamil Nadu, India during January to investigate the effect of organic and inorganic weed management practices on productivity of irrigated cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) The experimental was laid out in Randomized Block Design (RBD) comprised of eight treatments and three replications. The treatments are T1 - Unweeded control, T2 - Twice hand weeding on 20 and 45 DAS, T3 - Power tiller weeding on 20 and one hand weeding on 45 DAS, T4 - Calotropis gigantea leaf extract @10% + One hand weeding on 45 DAS, T5 - Calotropis gigantea leaf extract @20% + Power tiller weeding on 45 DAS, T6 - Pendimethalin (3.3 l ha-1) PE on 3 DAS + One hand weeding on 45 DAS, T7 - Pendimethalin (3.3 l ha-1) PE on 3 DAS + Power tiller weeding on 45 DAS, T8 - pendimethalin (3.3 l ha-1) PE on 3 DAS + Pyrithiobac sodium 62.5 g ha-1 on 45 DAS as PoE. From the results, it was revealed that (T3 - Power tiller weeding on 20 and one hand weeding on 45 DAS) had significant effect on growth and yield attributes of irrigated cotton. It was followed by Twice hand weeding on 20 and 45 DAS (T2) it was on par with Pendimethalin (3.3 l ha-1) PE on 3 DAS + Power tiller weeding on 45 DAS (T7) had significant effect on growth and yield attributes of irrigated cotton.
