Incidence of major viral diseases and associated insect vectors in major tomato growing tehsils of Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra during Kharif 2023

Abstract

During the Kharif 2023, a comprehensive survey was conducted in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra to determine the incidence of ToLCV, CMV, and GBNV. The survey covered areas including Rahuri, Nevasa, Kopergaon, Sangamner, and Akole. For ToLCV, Sangamner tehsil experienced the highest ToLCV incidence at 21.40%, with Nevasa (21.20%) and Kopergaon (20.80%) following closely. Rahuri (16.60%) and Akole (12.10%) had lower incidences, resulting in an average ToLCV incidence of 18.42% across the district. In case of CMV, Nevasa reported the highest CMV incidence at 16%, followed by Kopergaon (14.70%), Rahuri (12.80%), and Sangamner (12.70%). Akole had the lowest incidence at 5.30%, with an average district-wide incidence of 12.30%. While for GBNV, Kopergaon had the highest GBNV incidence at 6.20%, followed by Nevasa (5.80%), Sangamner (4.90%), Akole (4%), and Rahuri (2.30%). The district average was 4.64%. The highest adoption rates were in Kopergaon and Sangamner (70% each), followed by Nevasa (40%), and Rahuri and Akole (30% each). The district average adoption rate was 48%. Only Sangamner had significant adoption at 20%. Nevasa and Kopergaon had the highest adoption rates at 60% each, followed by Sangamner and Rahuri at 40%, with Akole having the lowest adoption. The overall district adoption rate was 44%.
