Dark ımaginations of afterlife and darker geographical structures an analysis through sociology and physical geography

Abstract

Humanity has created dark images related to afterlife referring to evil and punishment. In different parts of the World different civilizations and cultures have imagined several possible “places” which can be considered as hell or hell-related compositions. What has affected people in these imaginations? Sociology of religion, social anthropology and physical geography are functional for us in order to understand the dimensions of these imagined places. Do they exist in real? What is analyzed and discussed in this article is that there are certain geographical structures possibly inspired these narrations of purgatory or hell environments. When people’s surrounding geography changes inevitably their expectations or fears change too. This research will provide you some original discussions in several disciplines of social sciences.
