Effects of substance abuse in rural areas of Ayodhya district in Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

The present investigation was undertaken in Ayodhya region of Uttar Pradesh. For the study, a sample of 300 respondents was collected. The study was carried out by multistage ramdom and purposive type sampling through survey method. The analysis of profile of respondents indicates that majority of them belonged to young age (47.33%), male category (96.00%), primary (33.7%), SC/ST (56.3%), joint family (53.00%), family <6 members (52.66%), semi-pakka house (50.33%), main occupation as business (46.2%), monthly annual income maximum 50000 (47.33%). Downfall in financial status and social were two major effects of substance abuse on affected families got rank I. Income and education found inversely correlated to effects of substance abuse on affected families which were suggesting that the awareness about the negative effects of using substance abuse prevent them from their hazardous consequences.
